One Tree in Ten is about the experience of one individual’s life to connect on a deeper level this planet. Doing so my actively participating with and searching out for communities, farms, and individuals who are striving for a more sustainable future. Everything is interconnected and the way humans have done this the best is through food.
Local, National, and World Community: In order to become healthier with ourselves and become more empathetic to others, we must connect in some way in our relationship to individual people around us, to our surrounding community, to the national level, and to the world. We are all under one roof and all are connected in some way.
Health: Our health has direct correlation from our environment, food, plastics, and chemicals that surround us. We need to take in what really matters and live in a world that will strengthen us and sustain us in better ways. Connecting to our brothers and sisters, we can learn natural healing properties that impacts us more than those that rely on chemicals.
Sustainability: Without an symbiotic relationship with our planet we will never survive. How we build our cities, how we structure our civilization, and how we manage our food system is all tied together. Intentional living, permaculture systems, and building within our means are some ways that we can help build a better future.
Social Justice: Everyone is entitled to equal rights, fair wages, and equal treatment no matter what.
As we go through life, our connections that we have towards one another is a powerful element that has shaped who we are in life. But not only each other but to this planet, nature, food, community, and culture.
During this time in our lives, humans have had a vast impact on this planet and we can see the results in various fields. Both positive and negative. Which give me the question…Why am I here? What is the meaning of me being born on this earth, at this timeframe, and during this fascinating change in Earth’s history? And most important… how can I use my limited and fragile time here to connect on a deeper level to others, the planet, and myself.
This is my story… and my journey.
I have was raised in a middle class suburban family of Milwaukee for a better part of my upbringing. While growing through life, I went through the process of going to UW-Oshkosh to get an education degree for a field that I thought wanted to do for the left of my life, but then was opening my mind to question many of the problems we face in this world.
It’s strange how the universe can put it’s will upon someone when one may think they know what they want out of life. I continually develop interests into fields that have always transitioned into something else along the same path. But the many bumps in the road have always taught me more which deepened my understanding of myself as well as, sometimes unintentionally, been beneficial to future experiences and projects.
It just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
And now, my journey continues as I yearn to know more in the world. How can I help others with what I know as well as learning from their experiences? My venture across the planet is to connect to those individuals and communities who are making a difference for a better way of life.
Our planet is in a crisis and we need a change: Consciously, collectively, and spiritually. We are all equal on this planet, human and non-human, and we need each other in order to live.
I hope my experiences can reach out to you. We all can make a difference. We just need to believe in ourselves, encapsulate our beings with love, and step out of our comfort zones for a better future.
Peace and Love,
Jake Schultz
